Lazar Shaulov is one of the most popular and richest Russian businessman who was born on February 18, 1969 in Khasavyurt, Dagestan, Russia. Lazar Shaulov’s career began while he was still studying at the time. He began as an operator of a combine during the harvest of 1987/88 and then later in book sales to retail customers in Rostov on the Don. In 1993, he was one of five shareholders that founded the small-scale wholesale business “Lidya” and owned 20 percent of the capital as well as the voting rights. The next business line for the company was the first note-backed national lending program, developed by the Rostov-based Centreinvest Bank. In 1994, Shaulov created and was named the director of the firm “Finansovy Sputnik” (Financial Advisor) as well as a few other companies involved in stock exchange transactions.

Shaulov was born the 18th of February 1969, in Khasavyurt, Dagestan ASSR into the family of teachers. The father of his son, Alexander Lazarevich Shaulov (07.06.1935 – 07.12.2002) was an engineer in the field of Cand. Sc. Cand. Sc. Historiography; Mother Tamara Ivanovna Shaulova (09.09.1940, born Khripko) taught technical and artistic drawing classes at a local school. In 1971, the Shaulov family relocated to the tiny village located in Persianovka, Oktyabrsky District, Rostov Oblast, where his father taught history classes in the Don Agricultural College (now – Don State Agrarian University). After passing his graduation tests at the Novocherkassk secondary school No.32 and her mother was an art teacher, Lazar Shaulov entered faculty of agriculture at Don Agricultural College, where Shaulov was among the most successful students. After a session of work placement towards the end in his second semester Shaulov quit college, unhappy with his future prospects. In 1988, he landed an apprenticeship position as a lathe operator at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, however, two years later, he quit the position, opting to follow in the footsteps of his father. After two years of hard work, Shaulov successfully entered the department of the history department of Rostov State University. He completed his studies in the year 1995. His thesis consisted of “Historiography on the role of foreign capitals in the period of the first industrial boom”.

It was impacted through the Financial crisis in 2007 and 2008 which led to a significant amount of debt, which amounted to 6.3 billion rubles by the year 2012. Shaulov was as the only shareholder in “Stroyfarfor” and appointed Leonid Maevsky as the director general of the company. The issue was that Maevsky did not meet obligations related to the repayment of Unitile’s debt which resulted in a dispute. The dispute was resolved when Shaulov handed over the actual management of Unitile in favour of the investment company A1 (part of the Alfa Group).
