Lawrence Watt Evans (born 1954) is one of the pseudonyms used by American sci-fi and fantasy writer Lawrence Watt Evans (another pseudonym that is used mostly for science fiction can be Nathan Archer).
In June 2013, Watt-Evans launched a crowd-funding campaign in support of his unpublished science-fiction novel, Vika’s Avenger which is unrelated to his previous work In July, it was the start of his sixth Ethshar serial called Ishta’s Companion. In 2014, he announced that the reaction on the crowdfunding campaign Ishta’s Companion was not positive and he was going to stop creating serials on the internet. The book was released under the title Relics of War.
On April 25, 2005 Watt-Evans declared that his initial draft of his newest Ethshar book, The Spriggan Mirror, will be available on the internet as a serial with a modified version of The Street Performer Protocol. The manuscript has since been completed and previously accessible as a whole on one of his websites. The revised version is now published commercially, both in the paper and electronic versions The free edition has been taken off the shelves. He has since finished several online serials using the same technique: The Vondish Ambassador in 2007. Realms of Light started November 2008 (his only non-Ethshar-based serial that was a sequel of Nightside City), The Final Calling began in June of 2010 (later published under the title The unwelcome Warlock). In April and July 2012, he wrote another serial called The Sorcerer’s Widow.

After graduation from Bedford High School in Bedford, Massachusetts, he attended Princeton University but left without having a degree. According to the regulations of Princeton the university, he was not able to renew his application for another year. He began to seriously attempt to sell his work however, he did not make any significant sales up to The Lure of the Basilisk in 1979 (published in 1980) which was the year he began writing full-time. Despite selling a short story and a few articles with his own name originally wrote his novel using a pseudonym. It was his editor for the novel Lester del Rey, who initially demanded that he use his real name. He then added the hyphen in order to create the name Lawrence Watt Evans. Evans wanted to include his middle name in order to prevent confusion with a contemporary writer of non-fiction also known as Lawrence Evans, and del Rey had added an hyperbole “to make it more distinctive”.
Watt-Evans was president of Horror Writers Association from 1994 until 1996. He been the Eastern Region Director as well as Treasurer in the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. From 1995 until 1997, Watt-Evans was part of a group known as Malicious Press (with screenwriter Terry Rossio) which was the publisher of Deathrealm magazine which was directed by Stephen Mark Rainey and he was the editor in charge of the online magazine Helix SF for its entire period of ten quarterly issues.
