Lauren Louise Price (born 25 June 1994) is a Welsh boxer, kickboxer also a former professional footballer. She represented Wales in the middleweight category for women during the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won the bronze medal. As a result she was the very first Welsh woman to be awarded the Commonwealth Games boxing medal. Captained Wales at the under-19 level, Price made her debut in the Wales senior team on the 16th of June, 2012, taking over Sarah Wiltshire in the closing moments of a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland.
She also played football for several years with Cardiff City, winning the inaugural season of the Welsh Premier Women’s Football League in 2013. Having captained Wales at under-19 level, she made her senior debut in 2012. She gave up playing football in 2014 to focus on her boxing career.
She claimed another bronze medal at the 2016 Women’s European Amateur Boxing Championships. In 2018, she became the first Welsh woman to win a gold medal in boxing after defeating Caitlin Parker via split decision in the final of the event. In May 2019, Price was selected to compete at the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus, winning the gold medal.
Price began boxing in her teens, However, she was able to further engage in the sport after seeing British boxer Nicola Adams win gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. After participating in one amateur fight at age 17 she took part in the Women’s European and Youth World Championships where she took home the bronze medal. In the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she became the first Welsh woman to earn an Olympic boxing gold medal after beating Kaye Scott in the quarter-finals of the women’s middleweight division. She was able to make sure she won at the very least an Olympic bronze. She faced Ariane Fortin, who was in her semi-finals, but she suffered a split decision loss.

Price is a native of Newport, Wales, but was raised in Caerphilly in Caerphilly, where she was taken care of by her parents. She was a student at Heolddu Comprehensive school in Bargoed. Price showed an intense interest in various sports, taking on netball, football and kickboxing when she was 10 years old, with the latter following the encouragement of her grandfather. As a kickboxer Price received an Olympic silver medal in a World Championships event in Athens in 2007 at age 13, competing against athletes who were twice her age. She also became the youngest athlete at the British Championships. She would go to be a four-time world champion as well as a 6-time European champion in the sport , and then took part in Taekwondo.
Price was noticed by Scouts from Cardiff City. She was credited with her kickboxing lessons to help improve her playing and said “I could kick a ball a lot further than any of my team mates” and stating the fact that “I might have had a higher pain threshold than everyone else.” She was a part of the team’s under-16 squad that took home the Welsh section of the Tesco Cup in the year 2010, winning the the player of the tournament.
She progressed to the senior team at Cardiff and won the inaugural Welsh Premier Women’s Football League title during the 2012–13 season after their decisive 5–2 victory over Wrexham in the final game of the season. Price was named the club’s Player of the Year during their title winning season. Price was also named the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Club Player of the Year. In 2014, Price stepped away from football to concentrate on her boxing career ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
