Laura Elizabeth Arabosa Izibor (born 13 May 1987) is an Irish music artist, singer, and producer. She was the winner of the RTE 2fm song contest when she was at secondary school. She then won one of the awards at the 2006 Meteor Music Awards. She was also a part of the Electric Picnic music festival and Music Ireland 2007. Izibor has also opened on stage for Aretha Franklin India.Arie, Estelle, Maxwell along with John Legend on tour.
At the age of 17, Izibor was signed to Jive Records and dropped out of school to make the album she would release her first. Following a dispute with the label and a subsequent signing to Atlantic Records and subsequently moved to New York after her mentor, Steve Lunt, was given a position at the label. She received an honor at the 2006 Meteor Music Award and became the first non- signed artist to be nominated. The debut album of Izibor Let the Truth Be Told, made available in May of 2009. The album debuted at the top of the charts at 2 at the Irish Albums Chart. The album was released in the U.K Album Chart at number 100 and was ranked at number 27, on the U.S Billboard 200. The track “From My Heart to Yours” was released six months prior, on the 10th of November, 2008 and reached the top twenty-five spot in the U.S Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs. Her second single “Shine” was released on the 16th of March 2009 and peaked at 21 at the top of the Irish Singles Chart. The chart remained at number twenty-one over four weeks. The track was originally composed for the film The Nanny Diaries but was later included on the album. It appeared on numerous TV commercials as well as on TV dramas. The 3rd song “Don’t Stay” was released on May 11, 2009 and reached number eighty-eight in the U.S Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. “If Tonight is My Last was named its fourth album single however it was not released. It was is, however, the subject of an advertisement for the U.S popular T.V series One Tree Hill and is widely regarded as one of her best songs. She was nominated as ‘Best U.K Newcomer’ at the MOBO Awards 2009 and also for ‘Best Female Act during the 2010 Meteor Awards, as well as being named ‘Best Irish Popular Act’. She performed her new song ‘Gracefully’ in The Jazz Cafe in London, on the 12th of September. Just over one year later, on the 19th of October, 2010, Izibor debuted her new single “Can’t Be Loved” in the sixth episode of One Tree Hill’s 8th season. The song was believed to be the lead track on her forthcoming album, but she did not confirm or deny the idea. In an interview with the music website Metromix on July 29, 2011 Izibor declared that the title of her new album was Love, Learn, Live and that it would be out shortly. But, by the end of summer 2012 there was no album released. But, Izibor did release an EP on the 7th of August in 2012, which was titled The Brooklyn Sessions Vol. 1. The EP included three tracks: “Gracefully”, “He’ll Never Know” and “Ring”.
