Following her gold medal during the 1996 Summer Olympics and her triumph at the 1998 World Cup, she became the eighth French fencer, as well as the first woman to be awarded titles such as the Olympic as well as World Champion titles. Laura Flessel began fencing at age 6 and soon became an extremely skilled fencer. She progressed rapidly and eventually became Champion of Guadeloupe.
