Latasha A. Thomas (born May 2 1965) is an American politician and former alderman from the 17th Ward of the City of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Thomas was appointed alderman under the Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000. She was then elected as an outright winner in a special election held in 2001 and was elected again three times in 2007 and in 2011. In her time as alderman Thomas was instrumental in getting several schools in her ward upgraded. In the fall of 2014, Thomas declared her decision not to run for to run for re- election as alderman in 2015 in the wake of the announcement that an employee from the past will be running in her place.
