Kazuyuki Hamada is one of the most popular and richest Political Scientist who was born on March 17, 1953 in Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Hamada was born in Yonago, Tottori on 17 March 1953. His father worked for Japanese National Railways and his mother came from a farming family. The graduate graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies with the degree of Chinese language in 1975 . He was a part of Nippon Steel the same year. After quitting Nippon Steel Hamada joined the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., becoming an Associate Director and Fellow in 1987. He received an Ph.D. in the field of political science at George Washington University in 1992. In 1995, he was consultant to the United States’ Congressional Research Service.
On June 27, 2011, while still an opposition member of the LDP, Hamada was offered an opportunity to join the cabinet that was headed by Naoto Kan in the role of Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications. The post would require Hamada be in charge of the rehabilitation efforts following the march 2011, Tohoku Tsunami and earthquake. He resigned from LDP and was appointed to the ministry the next day. The LDP was able to respond one week later, not accepting his resignation, and exiled the candidate out of the group. He remained an independent for a few months until he joined The People’s New Party on 29 December 2011.
In April 2016 Hamada resigned from the Party for Japanese Kokoro and joined Initiatives from Osaka. Hamada’s Tottori constituency was to be merged with the Shimane at-large district to create the Tottori-Shimane at-large district and contesting the new seat as a minor party candidate against Kazuhiko Aoki, the LDP’s incumbent member for Shimane, would prove too difficult. Instead Hamada received a nomination to contest the summer 2016 election from the national proportional representation block as an Initiatives from Osaka candidate. However, on Friday 27 May 2016 Hamada caused controversy when he was absent from the House of Councillors, which was debating bills related to relief following the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, in order to attend a party meeting in Osaka for Osaka prefectural representatives. He greeted the meeting by saying “I have come today to say a greeting to the all-star cast in attendance”. His attendance was intended to gain support within the party for his national block campaign, and Hamada later explained that he had the party’s permission to be absent from the House debate. However, the party’s leader in the Osaka Prefectural Assembly, Kazunori Ohashi, said the party was unaware of his intended absence. On the following Monday, party secretary- general Nobuyuki Baba [ja] announced that the party had removed Hamada as a candidate, saying that his absence from the House in order to progress his re- election campaign was “extremely regrettable”. Hamada submitted his resignation to the party on the same day, which was accepted the following day, 1 June 2016.
In September of 2011, Kan became the prime Minister by Yoshihiko Noda. Hamada was appointed Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of Noda and was in the post till the DPJ lost to the LDP in the general election in December 2012. It was also reported that the People’s New Party also performed badly in the general election and, in the wake of the election, Hamada became Secretary-General for the party. In March 2013, he along with the party’s leader Shozaburo Jimi were among the sole members of the party remaining inside the Diet and had decided to break up the party. Although he was back as an individual, Hamada created an uproar in the month of April, during United States President Barack Obama’s state visit to Japan in which he claimed his wife’s absence was proof that the couple was “negotiating a divorce”. Hamada was a member of the Party for Future Generations in November of 2014, and the party was changed to Party for Japanese Kokoro in December of 2015. In the meantime, Hamada was the Party’s Diet leader.
