Peter Cheruiyot Kirui (born 2 January 1988) is a Kenyan long-distance athlete who runs over 10,000 meters on the track as well as in road race contests. Kirui was named the 2011 Kenyan champion over 10,000 meters and placed sixth in the 2010 World Championships in Athletics. He has been an official pacemaker for marathons of major importance (including the world-record set by Patrick Makau in the year 2011) and holds the best marathon time of 2:06 hours. His personal best for half-marathon is 59:22 minutes.

Kirui was able to establish himself as a own way in the year the year 2011. With a close win in the CPC Half Marathon, he set a personal record of 59:40 mins, and completed the course in less than 1 hour in the first instance. He took the 10,000m course during the Kenyan Administration Police Championships and made a splash during the Kenyan Athletics Championships by claiming the title of the nation’s champion over the distance by overtaking African Champion Wilson Kiprop and Boston Marathon winner Geoffrey Mutai among others. He was able to earn a spot in the Kenyan team for the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu. He set a personal best in the time 27:25.63 seconds in the final. He finished in sixth place, just behind his fellow Kenyan Martin Mathathi.

On April 5, 2014 he set a new personal record, running a half marathon in Prague in 59:22 minutes.

After his World Championship appearance after his world championship, he resumed tasks of pacemaking in the race circuit. He helped Patrick Makau to a world record time in his 2011 Berlin Marathon. Kirui also beat the world record with his 30-kilometer time of 1:27:38 at Berlin (although the record was actually set by Patrick Makau who received the record after completing this race). In the following month Kirui set the pace in his race in the Frankfurt Marathon until 35 km and not only did the winner Wilson Kipsang set the second fastest time ever however, Kirui was able to complete the race and run a marathon record of 2:06:33.

Originating in Bomet in Kenya Kirui competed in his first competition outside of Kenya at the Cursa of Bombers event in Barcelona and finished second to Josphat Menjo. Kirui won the Carreira Popular in A Coruna in 2009 and was fourth in the 15km Villa of Massamagrell the following time (which was also taken by Menjo). He ran his half-marathon debut back in the year 2009, and placed in the top four finishers at the Nice Half Marathon, Udine Half Marathon and the Baringo Half Marathon. He raced across the tracks in Spain during the summer of 2009, registering an all-time best 3000 metres of 7:45.79 seconds in Zaragoza and a 5000 metre top time in 13:15.90 minutes in the Barcelona Athletics Meeting.

He showed himself as a skilled pacer in the year he was running: he guided Patrick Makau with a pace 2:04:48 hours in the Rotterdam Marathon in April and helped Samuel Wanjiru run an impressive time of 2:06:24 in the 2011 Chicago Marathon. Kirui finished his season by finishing ninth during the New Delhi Half Marathon.

He began 2012 with a win at the New York Half Marathon, edging Deriba Merga in the latter stages to finish in a personal best of 59:39 minutes. Running in his second competitive marathon, Kirui dropped out of the Rotterdam Marathon after 30 km. He continued to perform well in the half distance, claiming a victory at the Bogotá Half Marathon that July. He managed tenth place at the Amsterdam Marathon.
