Kay Cohen (born Kathleen Siddall on December 31, 1952, at Levin, New Zealand) is an Australian fashion designer and businesswoman based within Sydney, Australia. Cohen has been the leader of a variety of design-led lingerie brands including as the Founder as Creative Director and General Manager of Pleasure State and as General Manager and Creative Director for Elle Macpherson’s Lingerie label Elle Macpherson Intimates, also Cohen is acknowledged as the inventor of the Biofit bra that lifts up.

The year 2002 saw Cohen launched Expozay, the swimwear label that hired Sophie Monk, an Australian model/actress, as brand ambassador. (Cohen later collaborated with Monk on the launch of Biofit Bra). Biofit Bra). Cohen’s Expozay swim event held in Auckland New Zealand also featured Jennifer Hawkins two years before Hawkins took home her Miss Universe title.

By March 2005 Cohen’s label had over 300 stockists globally, including department stores Galeries Lafayette in Paris and Victoria’s Secret. in the United States. By April of that year Cohen’s designs were available in 45 Victoria’s Secret stores across the US and was one of only 3 international designer Lingerie brands to be stocked alongside Victoria’s Secret product. In November 2005 Cohen’s label was available across Russia in 90 Wild Orchid Stores and opened the retailers fashion show at the Moscow Manege, quickly becoming their best selling brand. Within 2 Years of the brands launch, Cohen’s label was available in 25 countries, and had launched its diffusion line Pleasure State White Label, renaming the high fashion Pleasure State: Pleasure State Couture. Pleasure State is currently available in 35 Countries and over 1000 stores globally.

Concurrently the brand shifted its Australian department store distribution to rival retailer Myer with a national roll out of in store boutiques. Cohen’s designs were further bolstered by celebrities Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson (appearing in the garments at the 2006 MTV Australia Music Awards), Rihanna and Anna Nicole Smith. By mid-2007 Cohen’s label was turning over more than $30 million per annum AUD, at this time Cohen announced the launch of the Biofit Bra.

In 2002, following that the Bendon group was bought through Pacific Retail Group. Pacific Retail Group, Cohen was named an ideal successor for the current CEO. Cohen continued to work in the role of a designer until she was scouted and moved to Australia in the early part of 2003 to lead the in the direction of creative for the Berlei Group which includes the following brands: Berlei, Formfit, Hestia, Playtex and Wonderbra. Within six months, Cohen was dissatisfied with the idea of injecting new life into established brands. Cohen recognized a niche for Lingerie design, a fusion of style, fit and functionality. Early in April 2004, news of the Australian Fashion Week launch of Cohen’s brand of lingerie that is luxurious and exclusive Pleasure State began to appear.

Cohen changed to designing Lingerie in 1992 after joining Triumph International, in Brisbane, Australia. In Triumph she was responsible for the direction of creative for brands such as Triumph, Sloggi, and introduced Valisere to the Australian market. In 1997, Cohen came back to New Zealand after which she was appointed the Group Director of Brands for Bendon, the New Zealand Lingerie company Bendon. In Bendon, Cohen was known for her innovative direction and the successful restructuring the design of Elle Macpherson’s Lingerie Label: Elle Macpherson Intimates. She also headed the creative direction for the brands Bendon, Bendon Man, Hey Sister and Expozay swim.

During her time as creative director for Elle Macpherson Intimates the label was acknowledged as the best fashion brands for underwear for Australian as well as UK department store. In 1997, Cohen created Macpherson Men, Elle Macpherson’s men’s underwear brand that quickly gained commercial success in the Australian as well as New Zealand markets. The combination of success of Elle Macpherson Intimates and Macpherson Men has prompted Bendon to expand availability of Elle Macpherson underwear brands to the United Kingdom. In 2001, the brand came out that the brand will be available by Selfridges as well as House of Fraser in their London Stores.

Cohen Launched Pleasure State at the Mercedes Australian Fashion Week 2004 in Sydney, with local fashion media voting Pleasure State as one of the top 10 shows of the 2004 Fashion week. Prior to launch the brand had been picked up by Australian department store David Jones and Harrods, Selfridges, Bentalls, Liberty and House of Fraser in the United Kingdom.
