She lives in New York with her husband, the novelist and book editor Colin Harrison, whom she met in 1985, when they were enrolled in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. They have three children.
Her wedding to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop co-classmate Colin Harrison resulted in three children. They and Harrison moved to New York City, where she taught creative writing at Hunter College City University in New York.
