Kathryn Apanowicz (born 3 June 1960, Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire) is a British actor from the UK. Apanowicz was raised within Horsforth, Leeds with a brother named Stephen. Her father was an Polish RAF pilot during the Second World war. She first got involved in television at eight, when she hosted an aimed at juniors on ITV before becoming a member of Calendar and later pursuing acting.

Apanowicz was a close friend of Whiteley’s Countdown co-host Carol Vorderman. In July 2008, Apanowicz was featured in numerous times in the British media, criticizing Channel 4 bosses for their inability to negotiate a fair pay agreement with Vorderman and led to her leaving the show.

Between 1994 and the year 2005, Apanowicz was the partner of Countdown host Richard Whiteley. After his passing she wrote a biographical account of Whiteley named Richard By Kathryn. Apanowicz gave three pairs of Whiteley’s glasses to the charitable Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) and they took them together with a team of opticians to Ethiopia and were fit to three locals who had similar prescriptions. The BBC reported on the story in its Inside Out programme which was broadcast on September 19th, 2007.
