Kason Ronald Gabbard (born April 8th 1982) is an American former professional baseball player. He was a part of Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers.
Gabbard had been dealt to the Texas Rangers in July 2007 in exchange for reliever Eric Gagne, the same day that the Atlanta Braves traded his high school teammate Saltalamacchia to Texas. It was the Red Sox would go on to take home their 2007 World Series, and Gabbard was presented with an World Series ring by the team.
Gabbard was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to pitch on May 20, 2007, against Atlanta in place of Josh Beckett. He had a good performance allowing 2 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings and got the win. He was then immediately optioned back to Pawtucket after the game. Gabbard started on June 26, 2007, against Seattle in place of Curt Schilling, who was placed on the disabled list. Gabbard had a sub-par performance, earning a no decision, and lasted only 3⁄3 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while walking six and striking out two. Gabbard performed well in his third start of the season on July 2, 2007, allowing three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out five, earning the win.
On May 8, 2008, in a game against the Seattle Mariners, Gabbard was charged on the mound by Seattle’s Richie Sexson. Sexson threw his batting helmet at Gabbard after Gabbard’s head-high pitch towards Sexson. Sexson later stated he was frustrated and had a lot going on in his head, including his club’s recent struggles. Sexson was suspended six games for the incident; a successful appeal lowered the suspension to five games.
Gabbard Made the Ranger debut on the 2nd of August, 2007 with the Cleveland Indians. Gabbard was suspended to the bench after the Indians defeated the Indians 5-1. A little more than three weeks later, on the 22nd of August, Gabbard was the winning pitcher in a game in which the Rangers beat 30-3 against the Baltimore Orioles 30-3, the most runs scored in one game in modern times.

A 29th-round selection from the Boston Red Sox in 2000, Gabbard started the 2006 season at Boston’s Double A affiliate Portland and recorded a 9-2 record and an 2.57 ERA in 13 starts. After being promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on June 23, he finished 1-1 with an 4.97 ERA in five starts. He was promoted to the Boston Red Sox on July 21 to take the place of Tim Wakefield, who was placed on the disabled list. When he made his debut in the major leagues the 22nd of July, he gave up two earned runs over 5/3 innings for the Seattle Mariners and was charged with loss. Gabbard’s first win in the major leagues occurred on Sept. 5, against The Chicago White Sox. Gabbard pitched seven complete innings, allowing three hits while striking out six batters in the one-sided Red Sox win.
Gabbard was the ninth rookie pitching in the Red Sox in the 2006 season and was added to the team along with Abe Alvarez, Craig Breslow, Manny Delcarmen, Craig Hansen, Jon Lester, Jonathan Papelbon, David Pauley as well as Jermaine Van Buren. Gabbard was also the 3rd Triple-A recall to be inserted into Boston’s rotation within six weeks, along with Kyle Snyder and Lester. They replace David Wells and Matt Clement who were to the injured list. In the same way, Gabbard joined Pauley as one of two Boston players who started the season of 2006 in Double-A Portland.
He tossed his first complete game shutout on July 16, 2007, against the Kansas City Royals in a 4-0 victory, allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 8.
