Karine Chemla (born February 8 1957) is an French mathematican historian and a sinologist who is researcher at the national Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS). Chemla is also an associate fellow of the New York University Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. She was named to be a Member of the American Philosophical Society in 2019.

Chemla’s research interests are Chinese mathematics as well as the 19th- century French geometry, as well as an understanding of mathematical history.

With Guo Shuchun Kemla released the book in 2004 as a critique edition as well as Translation into French of the Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art.

Chemla was a student at Paris Diderot University and the School of Normale Superieure des Young filles. She was awarded an agregation in math in 1978. Chemla was invited to speak during her participation in the International Congress of Mathematicians in 1998. She joined the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2004 and as well as the International Academy of the History of Science in 2005 and from the Academia Europaea in 2013. From 2013 to 2014, she was the incumbent of the Sarton Chair of History of Science at Ghent University. She is the winner for 2020 of the Otto Neugebauer Award.
