Kari Jalonen is one of the most popular and richest Finnish ice hockey coach who was born on January 6, 1960 in Oulu, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. Kari Jalonen (born on January 6, 1960) is Kari Jalonen (born January 6, 1960) is a Finnish professional coach of ice hockey and ex-player. He previously played for SC Bern.
He was named the head coach of the Finnish national team in the year 2014. In April of 2016 the position was made head coach at SC Bern of the Swiss top division, the National League A (NLA). He led players of the Finnish National Team to an Olympic silver medal at the 2015 IIHF World Championships in Russia before stepping down to take over the Bern post. He led Bern to winning the Swiss championship during the first year of his new job (2017) and later in the year 2019. The 28th of January, 2020 Jalonen was dismissed at the hands of SC Bern, following bad performance. Hans Kossmann took over at the direction for the club. Bern had been ranked ninth at the Swiss championship at the time that Jalonen was fired.
Jalonen was appointed chief coach at Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in KHL at the start of 2011-2012. He left Torpedo during the season 2012-13. The 2013-14 season was when Jalonen took over as the head coach of another KHL side Lev Praha and guided the team towards winning the Gagarin Cup finals. They lost the final to Metallurg Magnitogorsk in seven games.
