Grimm earned the MLB debut in June 16th, 2012 with the Houston Astros. Grimm won his first start, pitching six innings with seven strikeouts, not walking a single person as well as throwing 88 pitches, which resulted in 56 strikes. Grimm became the only pitcher to record seven strikeouts without walking in his debut appearance since the debut of Stephen Strasburg on the 8th of June the 8th of June, 2010.
In the first half of the 2013 season, Grimm went into the All-Star Break with a 7–7 record and a 6.37 ERA. His final three Rangers appearances saw him go 0-2 and pitch 11.1 innings, giving up 23 hits, 6 walks, and 15 runs.

Grimm was a student at Virginia High School in Bristol, Virginia, where he was a member of the team of the school’s baseball team. Grimm was projected to be the third or fourth-round selection from high school in 2007. The 2007 Major League Baseball draft, but he ended up in the 13th round , where he was chosen with the Boston Red Sox. The reason he was drafted was because of dedication to University of Georgia. He decided against professional baseball, and instead enrolled in Georgia’s University of Georgia where he played for Georgia’s Georgia Bulldogs from 2008 to the year 2010.
In his first year, He pitched 31 innings, with an 10.91 ERA. In his sophomore year, he was much better as he threw an average of 78 innings, with an 4.15 ERA. In his final year at Georgia the pitcher had an impressive 5.49 ERA in 77 innings. The Rangers traded Grimm to the Chicago Cubs on July 22, 2013, with Mike Olt, C. J. Edwards, and Neil Ramirez, in exchange for Matt Garza. He was optioned to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on July 23 and lost his first start for Iowa, giving up 7 earned runs in two innings including six straight hits to start the second inning. When major league rosters expanded in September, Grimm was recalled to the Cubs. Grimm finished the season in the Cubs’ bullpen, working 9 innings and posting a 2.00 ERA.
