On May 31, 2012, Tamburini was suspended for 10 months in connection with his involvement in the 2011-12 Italian controversy over football (formal announcement on June 18th). Gianni Rosati, the director of sports of Reggina and the city of his birth, had asked Tamburini to contact Antonio Narciso (by then Grosseto player and former Modena teammate) to change the Reggina- Grosseto match. The match in round 40 Reggina won 1-0 and Reggina made it to the promotion playoffs with the rank of 6th (last qualifying position).
In 2004, Tamburini quit for Modena. Tamburini was a Modena player for seven seasons. In the year 2011 Tamburini had been appointed as a player by Ascoli Calcio 1898.

Born in Cattolica in within the Province of Rimini, Romagna, Tamburini began his career with Romagna squad Cesena. He was a player for Cesena during 1995-96 Anglo-Italian Cup. He resigned to join Chieti and played 29 times during 1996 and 1997 Serie C2.
In 1999 Tamburini left for Vicenza. He went to Salernitana on a temporary basis after Vicenza was promoted in 2001-01 Serie A. In spite of Vicenza being dropped for only one season the loan was extended.
In January 2012 Tamburini was transferred to Pergocrema.
