Junji Hirata (Ping Tian Chun Si , Hirata Junji) (born on December 20, 1956) is an ex-retired Japanese professional wrestler who is currently being a trainer to the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) promotion. The promotion is known mostly by his name in the ring Super Strong Machine (supasutorongumashin , Supa Sutorongu Mashin) .
In the mid 2000s, Hirata was a founding member of the Legend and Seigigun stables. He wrestled his last match in April 2nd in 2014 during Wataru Inoue’s retirement celebration. He currently works as an instructor for the NJPW dojo. On April 12, 2018 the news was released that he was stepping down from competition. Hirata began his professional wrestling career as a wrestler in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) on the 26th of August 1978, in a match against Yoshiaki Fujiwara. Then, in November of 1982 he went for an overseas training trip to Mexico and then Canada and Canada, where was in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling Hirata would develop the infamous Super Strong Machine persona, and also use the First Nations gimmick as Sonny Two Rivers (billed as the son of Billy Two Rivers, an actual First Nations chief). In April of 1986 he resigned from NJPW together with Riki Choshu to join a another rival wrestling organization, All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW). In June 1987 the wrestler came back to NJPW and soon won the IWGP Tag Team Championship on three occasions, together with George Takano, Hiro Saito as well as Shinya Hashimoto as tag team members.
In the autumn of 1986, World Wrestling Federation introduced a stable of wrestlers dubbed The Machines “The Giant Machine” (Andre the Giant), “Big Machine” (Blackjack Mulligan) as well as “Super Machine” (Bill Eadie) which was based on Junji Hirata’s cult Super Strong Machine gimmick.
