He was a student at his primary school at the Ridge Church School in Accra and, after completing the primary school, he relocated together with family members to UK. Then he went back home to Ghana over three consecutive years studying at St. Augustine’s College. an institution for secondary education situated in Cape Coast. He did not play on the team for football of St Augustine’s College, but instead, he was a part of the school’s dance competitions.
He was transferred to Colorado with the San Jose Earthquakes in June 2001 in exchange for Chris Carrieri. He was a player for the Earthquakes throughout the 2001 season and culminated the season with an MLS Championship victory, but was dropped in the 2002 preseason and then replaced in the San Jose team with Devin Barclay.
In the summer of 2003, Agogo joined Third Division side Bristol Rovers. He played the first thirteen games of the 2003–04 season before having to have an operation which kept him out for the next nine games. He finished the campaign with six goals in all competitions. In the 2004–05 season, Agogo scored 20 goals in 51 appearances; the following season he scored 18 goals from 44 appearances.
In total, Agogo scored 12 goals in 27 matches for the national team between 2006 and 2009.
In the year 2000, Agogo was released from Sheffield Wednesday and moved to the United States to play for the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. He was sold with Colorado Rapids. Colorado Rapids after playing just one game in Chicago before going through to scoring 11 goals over 32 games with the Rapids.

Manuel “Junior” Agogo (1 August 1979 22 August, 1979 – 22 August, 2019,) was an Ghanaian professional soccer player who was striker. Born in Ghana but spent the majority of his youth living in the UK. Then he returned to Ghana as a teenager at secondary school. He started his career as a youth with Sheffield Wednesday in 1995, becoming a member of the senior team in 1997. He was a player for 15 different clubs in the following fifteen years before resigning from professional football in 2012. The majority of his career in England and also played playing in US, Egypt, Cyprus and Scotland. The longest period of his career was at Bristol Rovers (2003-2006), where he played 140 games before changing clubs towards Nottingham Forest.
Agogo was born in Accra, Greater Accra, Agogo started his career at Sheffield Wednesday in 1995, however, he only made just two appearances in the league for the Premier League side. In the 1999-2000 season, Agogo played loan matches for Oldham Athletic, Chester City, Chesterfield, and Lincoln City. The goal he scored at Chester at Cheltenham Town Cheltenham Town in October 1999 was voted as the greatest goals ever recorded at Deva Stadium.
In 2002, Agogo returned to England, this time with Queens Park Rangers. He made his debut coming off the bench away against Swindon Town. However, after only two appearances he moved to Football Conference side Barnet.

On 22 September 2007 Agogo scored his first goals of the 2007–08 season, a hat-trick in a 4–0 win over Gillingham – the first of his career. He netted two long-range strikes that season with a 35-yard lob of the goalkeeper in Forest’s 3–0 win at Yeovil Town and a 25-yard effort in Forest’s 4–1 success against Southend United. However, Agogo scored only three goals after his return from the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, one of which was against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. He finished as Forest’s top-scorer that season with thirteen goals, helping the club gain automatic promotion to the Championship. Agogo was sold during the summer for a fee of £565,000 to Zamalek SC.
