Juliene Brazinski Simpson (born January 20th 1953) is an American former basketball player who participated at the 1976 Summer Olympics. Simpson was admitted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.

Simpson continued to play with Simpson was part of the National team through the 1976 Olympics which took place within Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In the initial match against Japan The USA team defeated Bulgaria before facing the host team Canada. Simpson had 14 points and was which was second to Nancy Dunkle’s 17-point scoring in helping the USA team beat Canada by 84-71. After losing to USSR and the USSR, the USA team required a win against Czechoslovakia to win the medal. Simpson scored ten points helping the team win an 83-67 victory as well as the gold medal.

In 2000, Juliene was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

In 2001, she was the recipient of the Carol Ekman Award given out by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and in 2009 Simpson became the director of athletics at the College of Saint Elizabeth.

As of 1975 Simpson participated for the USA team at the Pan American Games held in Mexico City, Mexico. In Mexico City, the USA team had placed second in both the years 1967 and 1971, but they won all seven games in the event in 1975 to win their first gold medal since the year 1963.

Born from Elizabeth, New Jersey, Simpson (Brazinski at the time) was chosen to the team of in the U.S. at the 1973 World University Games competition in Moscow, Soviet Union. This was the 8th event, but it was the first time the USA participated in basketball for women. The USA team was required to face the Soviet Union in the opening round, but were defeated by hosts at 92-43. The USA team came back and won their subsequent two games. Following the initial play followed, the teams proceeded to the medal round, and the loss in the first round continued to be a problem. In the final round of medals, the USA beat their 3 games. This included a game against 6-1 Cuba in which the USA beat by a score of 59-44. They then went on to the gold medal match however, they were playing hosts Soviet Union, now 7-0. The USSR triumphed to win the gold medal and the USA came in with a silver at their debut competition.

Simpson was selected for his USA National team, which took part at the 1974 World Championship held in Cali, Colombia. The USA team was defeated in their first round match by two points to Japan with a score of 73-71. After winning the following game, they had to play Czechoslovakia who prevailed only by one point, of 66-65. The result led team USA squad to consolation games in which they beat three times and lost one game against Canada at 74-68. The USA came in eighth position.

Simpson was named Western Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year, Regional Coach of the Year, and also had a highest university sports team, GPA six out of her eight seasons. Following her time at Arizona state, Juliene went on to coach six seasons of Bucknell University, which included a Patriot League Championship in 1996. In 1997, Simpson moved on to coach four seasons at Marshall University, followed by eight more seasons at East Stroudsburg University.
