Julie McCulloch Girling (born 21 December 1956) is an British politician who was member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South West England between 2009 until 2019. Formerly a Conservative She was exiled by the Conservative Party in 2017 . She then in February 2018, joined with the European People’s Party group, and was an independent. She voted for Change UK in April 2019. In May of 2019 she urged people to vote for Liberal Democrats. Liberal Democrats, and in June she was appointed temporary leader of Renew Party. Renew Party.

She as well as her colleague Richard Ashworth were suspended from the Conservative Party and had the whip taken away on October 7, 2017 after both voted in the vote in Strasbourg in which they claimed that there was not enough progress been made during the initial stage of Brexit negotiations to permit discussions for the trade-deal stage of negotiations. However they remained part of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) parliamentarian group. On the 28th of February, 2018both MPs quit the ECR group and joined their fellow members of the European People’s Party group.

In June 2019 she became interim leader of the Renew Party.

On 16 April 2019, it was announced that both Girling and Ashworth had joined Change UK. Girling said she was “looking forward to being able to use my extensive experience as part of the Change UK team”. However, on 10 May, Girling encouraged Remain supporters in the South West to vote for the Liberal Democrats in the 2019 European Parliament election, saying they are “clearly the lead Remain party in the South West”. Girling and Change UK later stated that she had never been a member or one of their MEPs. She did not stand for re-election in 2019.

Girling has been the Conservative council member on Cotswold District Council from 1999 until 2009, and was the Cotswold District Council Leader from 2003 to 2006. Council from 2003 until 2006. She also was a member of Gloucestershire County Council from 2000 until 2009, and rose to become the Council’s cabinet member for Environment. She was able to step down from both leading positions prior for 2009’s European Parliament elections in 2009, in which time she was elected a member of the European Parliament for South West England.
