Rignall’s professional career as a game journalist started with London in the 1980s when he was a student playing in video tournaments. In his teens, Rignall held the UK and World Record high scores on video games, including Defender, Pole Position and Crossfire. He also took home Computer and Video Games magazine’s 1983 UK Video Arcade Game Championship and beat more than 500 of the nation’s top arcade players to take home the title. The success of Rignall in winning international tournaments for video games led to his profession as an editor of video games, writing tips and hints for gamers for magazines like Computer and Video Games and Personal Computer Games.
When the year 1985 began, previous director of Personal Computer Games, Chris Anderson was invited by Chris Anderson Rignall as a member of his launch crew of Newsfield Publications’ Commodore 64 magazine, Zzap!64.
