Julia Mikhaylovna Lezhneva (Russian: Iuliia Mikhailovna lezhneva ; born on December 5, 1989) is a Russian soprano recitalist and opera singer, who specializes in coloratura and soprano mezzo-soprano materials from the 18th and early 19th centuries. She trained with Tamara Cherkasova, Irina Zhurina, Elena Obraztsova, Dennis O’Neill and Yvonne Kenny.
In August 2009, Lezhneva was one of the youngest winners in the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition with the winning prize at the sixth edition of the competition. Other awards won by Lezhneva include the Russian Triumph award for her contributions to art and culture. Lezhneva was a guest performer at festivals around the world, such like for instance the Salzburg Mozartwoche Festival (with conductor Marc Minkowski) and Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro (with conductor Alberto Zedda and tenor Juan Diego Florez).
Following her British debut in Liverpool in February 2009, Lezhneva made her London debut on 13 May 2010, at the age of 20, singing Elena’s Final Rondo from Rossini’s La donna del lago at the Classical Brit awards at the Royal Albert Hall. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, recipient of the evening’s Lifetime Achievement award, personally introduced Lezhneva as her protégée. Operatic tenor Dennis O’Neill, director at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice, where Lezhneva has studied since September 2008, said:

In the 2009/10 season, Julia gave solo performances throughout The UK, Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Norway, and Italy. In January of 2010, she performed her first solo performance during Salzburg Mozartwoche Festival. Salzburg Mozartwoche Festival, performing the part of the soprano of Mozart’s Great Mass conducted by Marc Minkowski. In April 2010 , she took part in the memorial concert of the late Polish President Lech Kaczynski. She performed the part of a soprano in Mozart’s Requiem under the direction of Marc Minkowski at the Main Square of Krakow.

Julia Lezhneva was born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Sakhalin island), Russia, into the Geophysicist family. In 2004 Lezhneva was awarded a distinction at her school, the Gretchaninov Music School in Moscow. She graduated in the summer of 2008. earned an honours diploma for her studies in vocal and an award for piano from the Moscow Conservatory Academic Music College. Her studies continued from the summer of 2008 until the summer of 2010, at what is now called the Wales International Academy of Voice under Dennis O’Neill with the support of the Kempinski Arts Support Programme initiated by Marylea Van Daalen. Lezhneva was a participant in masterclasses with Richard Bonynge, Carlo Rizzi, Kiri Te Kanawa, Ileana Cotrubas and Rebecca Evans. She took masterclasses with Elena Obraztsova in St. Petersburg in 2007 as well as with Alberto Zedda at the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro in 2008. She also took masterclasses with Thomas Quasthoff during the 2009 Verbier Festival.
Lezhneva performed solo at The Great, Small and Rachmaninoff Halls of the Moscow State Conservatory, the Great and the Small Halls of Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic as well as at the Bolshoi Theatre and also in Poland, Japan, Slovakia, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Norway and Italy. When she was 12 years old, Lezhneva began participating in singing competitions and festivals. She was awarded the Grand Prix at both of Elena Obraztsova’s competitions in the world including the initial Competition for Young Vocalists (2006) and the sixth Competition for Young Opera Singers (2007) where she also received all particular prizes. The jury comprised Christa Ludwig, Eva Marton and Teresa Berganza along with others.
In 2010 Lezhneva participated in Il Giardino Armonico’s European concert tour and recording of Vivaldi’s Ottone in villa in which she sang the role of Caio. She also gave debut solo concerts at the Salzburg Festival with the Mozarteum Orchestra and Marc Minkowski

Lezhneva made her Australian debut with a recital at the Melbourne Recital Centre and a concert for Hobart Baroque Festival. She also appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow on 26 December 2013 participating at the Elena Obraztsova Anniversary Gala.
