Jules Maxwell (born October 28 1965, in Bangor, Northern Ireland) is a musician, songwriter and composer. He is currently a keyboardist in the band Dead Can Dance. His music for theatre and dance incorporates minimalism which is frequently recorded with strong, melodic sequences of sampled sound that are that are influenced through the works by Gavin Bryars.

He composes regularly at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. Most notably Matthew Dunster’s 2012 production of Doctor Faustus, Jonathan Munby’s 2014 production of Antony and Cleopatra and the 2015/16 touring production of Merchant of Venice starring Jonathan Pryce as Shylock.

He co-wrote 4 new songs with Lisa Gerrard for a new album Boocheemish by Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares. He also completed a 7 track album with Gerrard entitled BURN which is due for release in September 2019.

Since 1997, he has composed music for a variety of films, theatre and dance productions. He has collaborated together with Israeli choreographer Jasmin Vardimon for their productions “Lure, Lure, Lure” and “Ticklish”. He continues to work on stage with Wayne McGregor – “Digit01” and “Alpha”, and Cathy Marston in “Sophie” and “Before the Tempest”. Maxwell became a frequent collaborator with Box Clever Theatre Company and composed music for the Young Vic’s critically acclaimed performance of Some Voices by Joe Penhall. Maxwell composed film music that featured Terry Loane (“Cluck”), Colin Bateman (“The Devil You Know”), Suzanne Arnold (“The Goblin Market”) Baldwyn (“Freeze”), Baldwyn (“Freeze”), Magali Charrier (“Tralala”), Theo Clinkard (“(v) to jump or jump in a way that is emotional”) as well as Charlotte Darbyshire (“The Lily The Rose”) He also established an ongoing relationship with the choreographer from Devon and filmmaker Jane Mason, and has composed soundtracks for her various screen and theatre projects to the present.
