The artist’s everyday posts on Facebook attracted a huge online audience thanks to her creative “selfies,” erudite friendly remarks, and well-attended solo and group shows that took place at art6 Gallery in Manhattan in addition to as far such as art6 Gallery in Richmond, Virginia and beyond. Judy Rifka’s pop figurations are recognized for its fast-moving lines and frantic speed. Joseph Masheck described Rifka in his 1993 book, Modernities, saying that “Rifka’s wit, which luckily keeps up with her anxious agitation, entails putting high care into a ‘careless’ look. And in a world charged with contending impersonal forces, this is like advertising in reverse, ‘pushing’ the individual consciousness in all its brave fragility.”
In the issue from January 1998 of Art in America, Vincent Carducci was akin to Masheck in that “Rifka reworks the neo-classical and the pop, setting all sources in quotation for today’s art-world cognoscenti.” Rifka as well as artists such as David Wojnarowicz, helped to bring Pop sensibility into a broader context that integrated high art and politics into Postmodernism and Robert Pincus-Witten wrote in his essay from 1988, Corinthian Crackerjacks & Passing Go, that “Rifka’s commitment to process and discovery, doctrine with Abstract Expressionist practice, is of paramount concern though there is nothing dogmatic or pious about Rifka’s use of method. Playful rapidity and delight in discovery is everywhere evident in her painting.”

It is that baby and the radiant child and our name, and what we’ll be will be outside of us and we have to become “Judy Rifka” or “Jean-Michel” as I did “Rene Ricard.” The acrylic painting that is not titled which is in The collection at the Honolulu Museum of Art, illustrates the artist’s use of plywood as a medium to paint.
