Juan Cayasso Biography

Juan Cayasso is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on June 24, 1961 in Limón, Costa Rica. Juan Arnoldo Cayasso Reid (born on June 24, 1961, in Limon) is a former Costa Rican football player who played in the 1980s and 1990s.

It is the one the nine children born to Arnoldo Cayasso Joseph and Muriel Reid Carr. He got married in 1989 to Marta Zamora and had 2 children, Jose Cayasso and Naomi Cayasso. He divorced later, was remarried and had a daughter, Juan Gabriel Cayasso.

He scored his 100th league goal on 18 March 1998 for Carmelita but was released by them in March 2000. He was given a testimonial match in November 2000.

After coaching second division side El Roble, Cayasso took the reins at Limonense in January 2005, working for free since his hometown club was heavily in debt. Later he became sports director and administrator at Limonense. From 2012 he is a member of the Sports Committee of the canton Limón.

Cayasso was a winner of several national championships, in Saprissa and Alajuela in addition to 2 CONCACAF Champions Cup titles, with Alajuelense in 1986 and Saprissa at the time of 1995. In the early 90s Cayasso participated with the German Bundesliga with Stuttgarter Kickers then returned to Saprissa and helped his team to win more titles. In January 1996 , he relocated to Turrialba because he was struggling to play at Saprissa and in November, Cayasso joined Goicoechea.

Cayasso played for two of the largest clubs that were based in Costa Rica, starting out in Alajuelense in the mid-80s before then moving to arch-rivals Saprissa prior to the 1988 season. His move to Saprissa drew an influx of attention from the nation since he was regarded as to be among the best athletes in Costa Rica at the time. His debut was made for Alajuelense on July 21, 1981 in a match against Ramonense as well as scoring the first of his goals against Cartagines on the 11th of April, 1982. He played in 225 matches for Alajuelense and scored scores of 62 goals. He played in 104 games total for Saprissa with 27 goals.

He was nicknamed el Nene (the Kid) He made his debut with Costa Rica in 1983 and has been awarded a total of 49 caps and scored 9 goals. He has represented Costa Rica at the 10 FIFA World Cup qualification matches and is best remembered as the man who scored the very debut Costa Rican goal ever in the World Cup, against Scotland in the 90 World Cup finals played in Italy. The game was won by Ticos in a way that was against all expectations.

His final international was a July 1993 CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Jamaica. He also played at the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles.
