JT Southern is one of the most popular and richest Professional Wrestler who was born on July 4, 1964 in Nashville, United States. JT Southern (born July 4 1964) is a retired American professional wrestler. Although he gained the most attention due to his fight against Van Hammer in World Championship Wrestling, Southern also competed with Verne Gagne’s American Wrestling Association, Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) in Memphis, Tennessee, and in UWF International in Japan.

However, his real wrestling match became less and less frequent – he had a few losses against his arch-rival Van Hammer (including an embarrassing loss that lasted just 40 seconds) however, these matches didn’t get any airtime because other matches were scheduled for TV shows instead. In one of the matches that Flamingo took with Johnny B. Badd, the ring commentator Tony Schiavone cheekily asked co-commentator Jesse Ventura whether Southern was Flamingo’s manager. The lack of talent in the ring resulted in insiders suggesting that “JT was a reference to “Just Terrible”. Southern was officially released by WCW in summer 1992.

He eventually got his big break with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1992 – with long blond locks and good guitar-playing skills, he was given a rock-star wrestler gimmick and was brought in to start a feud with fellow rocker Van Hammer. He made his WCW debut on the March 28 edition WCW Power Hour against Chris Sullivan.

In June of 1991, Southern traveled to Japan to test his skills at UWF International (a hybrid of kickboxing and wrestling). Southern made his debut against Nobuhiko Takada and was described by one announcer for being “pretty but ineffective” as the match ended badly for him. It is the very first time that in UWFi time that a wrestler did not manage to get one point off of his opponent.

After making his debut with the affiliated AWA Continental Wrestling Association in Memphis in 1986, Southern joined the American Wrestling Association (AWA) in the year 1986. There, Southern received a boost into

1987. He was joining a tag team with D.J. Peterson. Peterson also worked along with Jimmy Snuka and won the International Tag Team Championship. The belts for the title were later taken away from Southern and handed over the title belts to The Mercenaries when Snuka left the region. After a few performances with the briefly-lived Oregon Wrestling Federation, Southern was then removed from the region too.

Then he appeared in Windy City Wrestling appearing for its first show “Battle of the Belts” in Chicago on the 30th of January 1988. The wrestler was on the undercard alongside Big Bubba in a tag match with “Playboy” Buddy Rose and Doug Somers. After working on the circuits of indie wrestling (particularly that of Continental Wrestling Association, which was later transformed into United States Wrestling Association in Memphis which was where he first was recognized), Southern had a brief appearance as Wolfe Wilde, the drummer of “The Tough Guys” band at Clash of the Champions X where he faced Cactus Jack Manson following the fact that Jack was defeated by Mil Mascaras. He then confronted the band members who were performing at the time of the commercial breaks.

In March 1992, he brought his friend Scotty Flamingo (who had a similar flamboyant spoiled rich-boy gimmick) to WCW as a sidekick to help regenerate interest in his feud with Van Hammer, but before long Flamingo’s popularity had surpassed Southern’s and his talent had made him into one of WCW’s most marketable stars. With Southern unable to compete with him, he was demoted to the role of being Flamingo’s groupie – he would do the ring-entry with Flamingo and remain at ringside for his fights, sometimes interfering if Scotty was struggling.
