Eyisi began her professional journey as a part-time lecturer in the Nwafor Orizuo College of Education, Nsugbe, though she was a lecturer part-time for Nnamdi Azikiwe University early in 1996. In 2000, the university appointed her as an instructor full-time. Her rise from Lecturer I up to professorial rank at the time of her appointment on October 1, 2007 took about seven years and she was subsequently deemed as the youngest professor at the university at the time. The influence of Eyisi led to the establishment of the Department of English Language and Literature (situated near Nnamdi Azikiwe’s Faculty of Law) by the Nigerian transporter Chief Godwin Ubaka Okeke (MON). She was an adjunct professor in different tertiary schools of learning among them St Paul University, Awka, (2002-2005), and Ebonyi State University, Abakiliki (2001-2005).

In addition to these awards and honours with several others, Eyisi is a member of several professional organisations such as the National Association of Teachers of English, National Association for the Advancement of Knowledge, Modern Languages’ Association of Nigeria, International Reading Association, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), and English Language Teacher’s Association of Nigeria, etc.

As a scholar, Eyisi is known to have authored, co-authored, and edited several academic articles, journals, textbooks, motivational booklets, and conference presentations that are widely cited. Her Oral English for Successful Performance and Phonetics of English: A Hands-on Guide to Correct Pronunciation focus on how to acquire and master phonetic and phonological competence in English. Her best known work, Common Errors in the Use of English, identifies and corrects some notable errors many speakers commit while using the English language. A Grammar of English: The Student’s Companion, another of her work, takes learners into the rudiments of English as a second language, while The Mechanics of Reading Comprehension and Summary Writing identifies ways readers can understand and interpret printed words. With The Secret of Academic Success, which she claimed to be her best work, Joy Eyisi encourages students to aspire for academic excellence. English for All Purposes: Hands-on Guide for Excellence in the Use of English, co-authored with Chinonso Okolo and Joseph Onwe, as a reviewer noted, has the tendency to “provide a quick reference material…a refreshing tool to jog the memory about some intricate Quirk and Greenbaum university English and other text.

In recognition of her contribution to education and to society in general, Eyisi, in 2004 she was awarded the Silver Jubilee Merit Award from Bishop Crowther Seminary in Awka 2005. Adadiebube received The Recognition Award and the Merit Award were presented by St. Jude’s Anglican Church Adazi-ani Women’s General Meeting (Home and Abroad) in 2004; the Great Women of Honour Award in 2004 and the Merit Award of BBC Club, UNIZIK, Awka (2005) as well as A Menu of Integrity with a Certificate of Merit of Merit from Rotary International Rotary Club of Awka District 9140 (2006) Doyenne of Excellence and Distinguished Scholarship Award from the English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria (2007). She also received Educational Leadership Award from the Institute of Industrial Administration (2007) as well as a the Leadership Merit Award from First Bank of Nigeria Plc (2008) and the Award of Excellence Awarded to an Appreciation of Outstanding Contributions to Academic Excellence at NAU, Hostel Union Government, Awka (2009); Merit Award in Recognition of her Contributions to the Development of the Engineering Profession and Youth Empowerment by the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association NAU Branch (2010) and the Most prestigious Academic Excellence Award in Recognition of her Contributions to the Development in Education in Nigeria presented to her by the University of Nigeria Alumni Association, Awka (2010).

Joy Chinwe Eyisi (born 3 September 1969) is an Igbo Nigerian professor, author educator, scholar and an philanthropist. From 2006 and 2011 she was Director of the Department of English Literature and Literature at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, (NAU), Awka, Anambra State. She is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) which was a post she took on on the 26th of October 2017. Eyisi was previously as the Center Director for NOUN’s Study Centre in the National Assembly in Abuja was declared the winner of the election conducted by the University Senate on 25 October 2017. The winner succeeds Prof. Patrick Eya as the University’s first female Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

Eyisi stated that she was among the most disadvantaged pupils in the class and had poor grades during her first formal education. Also she was not a good candidate for primary school. education she was at Central School, Nnewi, but she was able to complete the First School Leaving Certificate at St Jude’s Central School, Adazi-Ani, in the year 1981. The same year, having a better Common Entrance Examination result, she was accepted into Girls’ High School Agulu in the year 1981, under the guidance of Rev. (Sr) Miriam Ozomma. The school closed in the year 1986. Eyisi who is one of the top academics has earned the National Certificate in Education (NCE) from the Anambra State College of Education, Awka (1986-1989). She continued her study at the University of Nigeria, (UNN), Nsukka, Enugu where she graduated with an undergraduate qualification (Second-Class Higher Division) in Education as well as English. Following serving in the national army in 1994, she accepted to a master’s program with a focus on Education Administration in addition to School Supervision, Nnamdi Azikiwe University which she was awarded the most successful student during the nation-wide ASUU strike in 1995. In 1997, and between 2000, she was enrolled to study MA/PhD at her Alma university, UNN.
