Despite his intention to initiate discussions with Bournemouth about a new deal, McQuoid instead signed for Championship club Millwall on loan on the 25th of November 2010 with the hope of an eventual permanent move in January’s transfer window. Eddie Howe later stated that McQuoid’s departure was an adverse effect on the confidence of the team. McQuoid was introduced as a substitute at half-time to Calvin Andrew in a 3-0 victory at home against Scunthorpe United on 4 December. McQuoid was a key assister to Jason Puncheon, who later scored a hat-trick during a 3-0 win against opponents Crystal Palace. McQuoid signed for Millwall permanent on January 5, 2011, for an unspecified fee estimated to be about 550,000 pounds. But, just a week after being a permanent Millwall player, McQuoid tore a ligament in his ankle in training. After three months off, McQuoid returned to the team to take part in a 3-2 victory at home against Leeds United on 9 April after he had entered the game as a substitute in the 89th minute. McQuoid got his goal of the season for Millwall with a 30-yard strike into the top corner of the net in the 4-0 win over Preston North End two weeks after. The 2010-11 season saw him score just one goal in his 11 appearances for Millwall.

The boy was born in Southampton, Hampshire, McQuoid began his journey as a player at Sway Juniors alongside future teammate Sam Vokes, and began his career as a youth player in the Southampton Academy and was let go after a year. Then he became a member of the youth squad at Bournemouth as he progressed through the ranks until he made his debut in the first team as substitute for Brett Pitman in a 2-0 victory at home against Doncaster Rovers on 3 March 2007. McQuoid made eight appearances during 2007-08 before signing his debut professional deal in May 2008.
