Monsignor Joseph Galea-Curmi was born to Paul and Josette born Mifsud Bonnici, in Birkirkara on the 1st of January, 1964. He is the third child of six. Monsignor Galea-Curmi attended Stella Maris School, Hal Balzan as well as within The Secondary School of St Paul’s Missionary College, Rabat, as well as the St Aloysius College (Sixth Form), Birkirkara. He was admitted to into the Archbishop’s Seminary in 1982. After finishing his studies and receiving the Licentiate degree of Sacred Theology at the Faculty of Theology and Theology, his ordination as a priest in the Roman Catholic priesthood by the Archbishop of Malta Monsignor Joseph Mercieca, on 5 July 1991. Monsignor Galea-Curmi was then sent to continue study at Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and earned a doctorate of Pastoral Theology in 1998. The title of his doctoral dissertation was “The Diocesan Synod as a Pastoral event. A study of the post- conciliar understanding of the Diocesan Synod”.
In May 2019 , Monsignor Galea-Curmi was officially recognized to the rank of an Ecclesiastical Knight Grand Officer in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Lieutenancy of Malta. The ceremony for his investiture took place in St John’s Co-Cathedral and was attended by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O’Brien.
In 2015 the year 2015, The Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna appointed Monsignor Galea Curmi Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Malta and Canon of the Cathedral Chapter.

Joseph Galea-Curmi (born on January 1st 1964, in Balzan, Malta) is a Maltese clergyman and Catholic bishop auxiliary in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Malta.
After his studies at Rome Monsignor Galea-Curmi, a Roman Catholic priest, was appointed as the assistant for the pastoral secretary of the Archdiocese of Malta and lecturer in pastoral theology in the University of Malta, where is still teaching until the present. He also served as responsible for the coordination for the Archdiocesan Synod held between 1999 to 2003. In 2005, he was elected to the board for the Diocesan Institute for Pastoral Formation as well as ecclesiastical advisor of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation (Malta) from 2008 to the present day.
