Josefa Rika is one of the most popular and richest Cricketer who was born on November 9, 1987 in Fiji. Josefa Falani Rika (9 November 1987 – 3 February 2020) was a Fijian cricketer who made his debut with the Fijian national team in June of 2006. Since 2010 he was captain of the team in a number of international competitions. He also played for Cricket Fiji in coaching and development roles.
In 2013’s WCL Division Seven tournament in Botswana, Rika scored 76 out of 122 balls against Ghana and also scored two ducks in the match with respect to Botswana in addition to Germany. In the final stages of the tournament, he announced he was retiring from playing, even though he was only 25. After serving as an assistant manager of development for Cricket Fiji since 2010, Rika continued to be involved in roles of development, and later as a coach for the Fijian under-19 team at the EAP 2013 Under-19 Cup. In June 2014, however, Rika announced that he was going to be retiring and play for Fiji at international tournaments as well as his work on development. Rika played for Fiji in the 2014 EAP Twenty20 Championship and was also selected for this year’s WCL Division Six tournament in England. As Cricket Fiji’s high- performance manager, he also coached Fiji’s Fijian women’s team during this year’s Pacific Games.
The EAP Under-19 Trophy and Africa Under-19 Championships were re-established as separate tournaments in 2007 and the EAP tournament being held in Vanuatu. As captain of Fiji, Rika started the tournament with two scores in the first match against Vanuatu as well as one for Papua New Guinea, but during the next match, against Japan the team scored 257 runs in just 145 balls out of the total team of 408/8. His score included 37 fours as well as nine sixes, with three consecutive sixes in one instance. The school he attended was Lelean Memorial School, Rika made his debut as a member of the Fijian under-19 team in the 2001 EAP Under-19 Trophy at just 13. Alongside his elder twin brother Colin Rika, the pair played all of four matches however, he scored just 14 runs, and did not get the ball. Between 2003 and the year 2005 there was no separate under-19 tournament was played in the region of ICC Eastern Asia Pacific members and the teams were instead playing with groups from the ICC Africa area. In 2008, at the WCL Division Four tournament in Tanzania, Rika was the only Fijian batsman to score over 100 runs in total and finished with 194 runs and an batting at an average of 32.33. His most impressive innings was 62 at the end of the fifth-place playoff game against Jersey the team he was victorious. But both teams were sent to an upcoming Division Five tournament in Nepal. Rika who was just 22 when he was selected, named Fiji’s captain to take the place of wounded Joe Sorovakatini, and again scored his best score against Jersey but his total of 75 balls wasn’t enough to stop his team from losing. Fiji along with Jersey were both sent home to in the year 2011 Division Six event in Malaysia. The captain was again named. Rika played the Fiji batting team with 185 runs in six innings. She also achieved half-centuries: fifty in the match against Kuwait as well as 52 in the match against Jersey.
