Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada is one of the most popular and richest Cuban artist who was born on February 5, 1966 in Santa Clara, Cuba. Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada is a Cuban American Contemporary Artist. The artist was born in Cuba on the 5th of February, 1966 and born to America. United States. His work is mostly created in urban areas at a massive scale. He was one of the founding members of the early 1990s New York Culture Jamming movement initially as part of the group “Artfux” as well as later the ‘Cicada Corps of Artists’. During this time, he launched interventions on billboards and other public advertisements. In 1997, he was beginning to pursue a solo career. In 2002, Rodriguez-Gerada relocated to Barcelona in Spain, where he concentrated on the massive ephemeral charcoal sketches from the Identity Series. Then he developed the Terrestrial Series, which are the ephemeral earthworks are so large that they can be seen from space. There are other projects in progress, including his Identity Composite Series, and smaller pieces he labels Fragment Series, Urban Analogies and Memorylythics. Since 2009, he has co-curated his annually held AvantGuard Urbano Festival; a smaller Urban Art Festival with big names, which is held at Tudela, Navarre, in Northern Spain. He is also a part of many exhibitions and shows.

In addition in The Identity Series, Rodriguez-Gerada has created The Identity Composite Series. With the assistance of The Autonomous University of Barcelona which has created an algorithm program which allows him to construct the composite image of the city’s demographics using several 3D facial scans. As an artist-in-residence in the Autonomous University of Barcelona he developed his first Composite Identity based on 100 faces from the area’s demographics in the year 2009. The portrait was then drawn in charcoal on an outdoor wall in the region. In 2010, he developed his identity Composite in Badalona, Spain, using 3D scans of faces of 34, of the 34 communities in Badalona. The composite was also an charcoal drawing, which was a feature on the Badalona wall. Rodriguez-Gerada is hoping to use the multidisciplinary project to make large-scale sculptures, as well as murals, across cities , that reflect each place’s peculiarities and inhabitants.’

For the Mama Cash project Rodríguez-Gerada created a portrait of the face of a fierce feminist activist, spanning almost two football fields on Zeeburghereiland, Amsterdam, in winter 2012. With the help of 80 volunteers the face was constructed in under a week using almost five miles of rope, seven tons of straw, 5300 cubic feet of soil and 1150 wooden poles. The portrait was to remain for one year. Rodríguez-Gerada had been invited to Amsterdam to create a piece for the International Human Rights Day, to help launch ‘Vogelvrije Vrouwen’ (‘Defend Women who defend human rights’), a campaign to raise awareness of the plight of Mesoamerican women who are illegally targeted and terrorized for defending human rights in that region. Mama Cash, a feminist foundation, commissioned the work.

The venture was a landmark project for the National Portrait Gallery. The gallery director, Kim Sajet, said “We’re moving into a new age of what a National Portrait Gallery is, what it does, and how it can change people”. Bob Vogel, the National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent, explains “Out of Many, One reflects what the National Mall stands for—democracy, diversity and freedom of expression. It will provide visitors with a unique national park experience and, in keeping with our mission, will improve the soil for better turf in the future. These benefits would not be possible without this unique partnership.”

Located ijn Barcelona, it was a giant mandala in homage to the architect. Miralles died at the age of 44 but his work left a remarkable legacy. His wife, architect Benedetta Tagliabue and their studio EMBT, organized the work and a picnic for family and friends.
