Jorge Pullin (/’ P U L I N born in 1963, in Argentina) has one of the recipients of the Horace Hearne Chair in theoretical Physics at Louisiana State University, known for his research on black hole collisions as well as quantum gravity.

In 1998 The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation chose Pullin as an Guggenheim Fellow, and in 2001, he was awarded an Fulbright Fellowship to visit the Universidad de la Republica in Uruguay. In 2001 the American Physical Society honored him with the Edward A. Bouchet Award which recognized his status in the category of “a distinguished minority physicist who has made significant contributions to physics research”. He is a co-member of the National Academy of Science of Uruguay as well as the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the Argentinian National Academy of Sciences along with the Latin American Academy of Sciences as well as an Associate of the American Physical Society, of the Institute of Physics, and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Pullin is also well-known for his series of research papers that deal with the theoretical and simulation numerically of colliding black hole. His early work on the topic (including his second most-cited paper in 1994) is based on his theory of “close approximation” in which the proximity of two black holes are considered mathematically as a single , non-spherical black hole. Since the time he joined LSU his research in this subject has been based instead on simulations using supercomputers. Another of his papers examines an abstract mathematical model of the radiation released by a star that collapses into a black-hole, and shows that it is able to compare well with numerical simulations.

Jorge Pullin attended the University of Buenos Aires (electrical engineering) for two years prior to departing for Instituto Balseiro in Argentina to complete an M.Sc. with a major in Physics (1986). He then moved to in the University of Cordoba to pursue his Ph.D. which was submitted in 1988 to the Instituto Balseiro; his advisor was Dr. Reinaldo Gleiser. Pullin is also one of the Managing Editors of the International Journal of Modern Physics D (covering covers specifically gravitation, astrophysics and cosmology, with topics such as general relativity, quantum gravity, cosmic particles and radiation) from 2005 to the present. Pullin is also a Member of the Editorial Board of Living Reviews in Relativity, from 2004 to present.
