O’Callaghan is a native of London, England with right side cerebral palsy hemiplegia. O’Callaghan was treated for 10 hours of occupational therapy, physiotherapy therapy and speech therapy each week over the course of 15 year at Royal Children’s Hospital. He was a student at Xavier College. In 2016, he received the University of Melbourne Elite Athlete Program (EAP) sporting scholarship , while taking a course towards a Master of Arts.
He began to ski at the age of nine when he was on holiday with family members in Europe. His classification is LW9-1. In his 2017 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Tarvisio, Italy, he placed 18th in the Giant Slalom Standing and did not place with the Slalom Standing.
He is also a descendant of Robert Hoddle, the surveyor who devised Melbourne’s famed inner-city grid system.
