Jonathan C. Wright is an American politician, currently serving as a judge for Illinois’s 11th Circuit. As a part of the Republican Party, he served for a short time as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from June 21, 2001 to Jan. 8, 2003. He was State’s Attorney in Logan County, Illinois from December 3, 2012 until December 7, 2018.

Wright was a candidate in 2004’s Republican election for U.S. Senate seat being left vacant from Peter Fitzgerald. Wright was a conservative candidate who ran on the platform that opposed homosexual marriage as well as the legalization of abortion. Wright was the only candidate of any major party that was not from the northwestern regions in the state. In a year that was notable for the record-breaking number of millionaire-rich candidates, Wright had to hold down his job as a full-time employee during his primary election. He was a constant candidate who was a longshot all through the race, Wright placed sixth of eight candidates getting 17,189 (2.3 percent) of the 661,804 votes of votes cast.

In 2018, Wright was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to succeed Thomas Harris after Harris was elected to the appellette court. Wright’s term as a judge began January 7, 2019. Wright will seek election to the Eleventh Circuit which covers McLean, Ford, Livingston, Logan, Woodford in the 2020 general election.
