Under the direction of Bokaer in 2002 A group of choreographers and artists formed Chez Bushwick, an adventurous arts organization that has affected a new generation of dancers, choreographers, and performers throughout all over the United States, and beyond. The founding artists created a set of public events that have become the symbol of a new method to work in New York City: across boundaries and across disciplines, using distinctive aesthetic signatures, and breaking down the barriers between curator, choreographer, producer and audience. Through collaboration strategies with activism and public discussion and public dialogue, these strategies for cultural development have brought about economic justice in an uncertain financing and real estate climate in NYC. Chez Bushwick received a recent honored with the Rockefeller Foundation NYC Cultural Innovation Fund.

Originating from Ithaca, New York, Bokaer studied dancing through Cornell University, and subsequently graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a North Carolina Academic Scholar (Contemporary Dance/Performance 2000). The company he was hired for was the Merce Cunningham Dance Company at the age of 18, which is a record Bokaer completed a parallel education of Visual & Media Studies at The New School (2003-2007) and was awarded the Joan Kirnsner Memorial Award. Further studies in media and performance took place in Parsons The New School for Design, NYU Performance Studies and self-taught research into 3D and digital media animation. These researches resulted in the creation of a unique multi-disciplinary approach for choreography that examines the human body’s position in relation to the latest technologies.
