Mock was the focus of much discussion throughout the 2003 season as well as the off-season of 2004 about whether he’d transfer to Texas into a 1AA college to play more games and stand a greater chance of getting the attention to the NFL. But, he decided to remain in Texas during his 2004 campaign. The year 2004, the player was given extremely limited playing time, appearing playing in just six games. The only game where the player was involved in was during the Missouri game. He substituted for injured Young at the end of the second half, and performed well enough to keep seven points for the victory. It was the final Texas game where he would throw a ball (for 9 yards , to Limas Sweed).

He was the starter in the first six game of the season in 2003 and led his team the Longhorns towards a 4-2 mark. This included a loss at home, to unranked Arkansas where Mock probably had his best game. He threw to 264 yards with three touchdowns, with no interceptions and one fumble. But it wasn’t enough to overcome mistakes in special teams and poor defense. In the win over 16th Kansas State, Mock played well in the opening half but struggled during the second half, and Young was the one who led Texas by scoring 10 points in two drives, scoring the winning touchdown. In the first game against #1 Oklahoma the next season, Mock was named the starting quarterback late on, but Young took over during the second half and played the majority of game. After the defeat, Young took over as the primary quarterback, mostly because the coaches believed that the lack of play by the offensive line demanded an agile quarterback. Mock alternated with Young following that, offering an extremely precise classic drop-back threat to compliment Vince Young’s scrambling skills. With Young at the helm, Texas reeled off 6 consecutive wins, including dominant wins against #9 Nebraska and 21st Oklahoma State and on the road against Texas A&M. Mock played only in a handful of games, but in the case of Texas Tech, when the offensive struggled in the 4th quarter, he stepped from the bench with just two minutes left to lead an 86-yard scoring drive. After five Texas was not allowed to play in an opportunity to play in a BCS game because of the controversial rule that limits each conference to just two BCS places and they ended up playing in the Holiday Bowl against #13 Washington State. Young was a little below par game which meant that Texas fell behind by 20-10 at the end of the third quarter when Mock who was responsible for three of Texas scores on an earlier runs during the first half was able to take over. He brought the Longhorns only one score, and then had Washington State on the 11-yard line, but the sack and blitz turned into a fumble , and Texas was unable to recover.

Chance Mock is a former American football quarterback who played college football for the University of Texas and played professionally for the Austin Wranglers in the Arena Football League. Mock was an announcer for the Wranglers, before they folded in 2008. As a Longhorn, he threw for over 1,500 yards with only 2 interceptions and still holds the record for lowest interception ratio in a season.
