He co-wrote six tracks on his self-titled debut album from Love Amongst Ruin with drummer/vocalist Steve Hewitt, released in September of 2010.
The first orchestral work he composed, Watching the Well, a Manchester Jazz Festival commission composed for and featuring the legendary British bass player Danny Thompson, debuted at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2007 and it was released by Naim’s Naim label at the end of November of 2010 to a rousing reviews.

As bassist for the group Lamb from 1996 on, he’s played live double bass in electronic music. He has recorded six albums, toured 45 countries on five continents, and performed at many of the most prestigious music festivals like Coachella, Roskilde, Werchter, Glastonbury, Montreux Jazz, North Sea Jazz and NYC Central Park Summerstage. Through the years of the group’s success, Thorne acted as an unofficial third-party member and made his most significant contribution to the band’s second album Fear of Fours.
The album he released as his debut Manchester Road was released through SAM LTD/ EGEA records in 2006 and featured 12 original compositions of jazz by the pianist Steve Brown and drummer Luke Flowers.
In 2016, Thorne formed the trio Yorkston/Thorne/Khan alongside Scottish folk musician James Yorkston and New Delhi sarangi player Suhail Yusuf Khan. They released their debut album Everything Sacred that year, followed by a second album Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars in 2017. Their third album, Navarasa: Nine Emotions, was released in January 2020.
