Jon Patrick Newlee (born February 26 1959) is the head coach for women’s basketball at the University of Idaho. He was previously employed over six years as women’s head basketball coach of Idaho State University.

Following Southwestern, Newlee returned to the main college ranks as an assistant at UTSA from 1989 until 1991. She was also with SMU from 1991 until 1999 with Rhonda Rompola as well as Hawaii from 1999 until the year 2002, with Vince Goo.

Newlee received his first coach’s job when he was a head coach in the fall of

1986. Southwestern College, a junior college located in Chula Vista, California. In the span of three seasons Newlee transformed the women’s basketball team, going from two wins during his debut season to a record of 22-6 in 1998-89. Newlee received Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year accolades in the process.

The son of Chaffey Community Basketball coach at the college Barney Newlee, Jon Newlee was born and was raised in Rialto, California. In Eisenhower High School in Rialto, Newlee played basketball and tennis. One of his teammates in basketball was the future NFL Hall of Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott. Newlee was then enrolled in Chaffey Community College where he played basketball for two years before making the move onto San Diego State University in 1979. Newlee was able to graduate from San Diego State in 1982 with an associate’s degree with a major in Physical Education.

From 1983 until 1986 Newlee worked as an assistant coach from 1983 to 1986 at Saint Mary’s.

After six seasons as head coach at Idaho State, Newlee became the ninth head coach in University of Idaho women’s basketball history on April 15, 2008.
