Johnny O'Neal is one of the most popular and richest Pianist who was born on October 10, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Johnny O’Neal (born October 10 1956, in Detroit, Michigan) is an American Neo-bop jazz pianist as well as vocalist. His style of playing is technically skilled to the softest of ballads. While his style is distinctive his style, he has been inspired by many jazz masters such as Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum. He has performed on numerous recording sessions with musicians like Russell Malone and many others. He was an inductee in 1997 from the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame.

On June 10 , and 11, the year 2016 O’Neal was in “Lush Life: Celebrating Billy Strayhorn,” performing with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He was greeted with an applause standing.

in 1974 O’Neal was relocated in 1974 into Birmingham, Alabama, where he performed as a full-time professional. In Birmingham O’Neal worked with local jazz artists, including Jerry Grundhofer, Dave Amaral, Cleveland Eaton, and Ray Reach. He relocated into New York City to perform with Clark Terry in 1981, and was also offered an ongoing job with The Blue Note, accompanying such artists like Dizzy Gillespie Ray Brown, Nancy Wilson, Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell. He was part of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers for two years between 1982 and 1983. He was able to make his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985.

Based on the advice from Oscar Peterson, O’Neal portrayed Art Tatum in the 2004 film Ray Recreated Tatum’s voice in the song “Yesterdays”.
