In the final year of his basketball eligibility at college Hamilton was a member of the UT Arlington Mavericks, being attracted to the team by head coach associate Greg Young, who had recruited Hamilton for Jacksonville College. The 22nd of April, 2015 Hamilton signed a statement of intent to participate in the team of Virginia Tech in the NCAA Division I. In December of 2015 Hamilton was banned by the coach in charge Buzz Williams due to poor academic performance. Hamilton completed his junior year with 17 games, scoring 1.8 per game, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game. A little over three weeks into the senior season at Virginia Tech, he suffered an injury to his thumb that ended his season following a tendon rupture found in the left thumb. He averaged 3.7 per game, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game.
Following his non-inclusion in the 2017 NBA draft Hamilton participated for The Detroit Pistons at the 2018 NBA Summer League. In three games Hamilton recorded an average of 4 points 4 rebounds as well as 1.7 blocks over 12.7 minutes of playing time. Hamilton was signed by Detroit’s Detroit Pistons to a training camp contract, but was released on the 12th of October, 2018.
