John Wraw Biography

John Wraw is one of the most popular and richest Anglican Priest who was born on February 4, 1959 in Hampshire, England, United Kingdom. Wraw was born the 4th of Feb 1959. He was from Hampshire, UK. He completed his law studies in Lincoln College, Oxford and was then ordained to his Anglican Ministry through Fitzwilliam College and Ridley Hall in Cambridge.

The nomination of Wraw to be the suffragan bishop in Bradwell came into effect on the 26th of July, 2011 in the wake of Laurie Green who resigned on 28 February 2011. On the 25th of January, 2012, he received the blessing of as a Bishop by Rowan Williams, the then Archbishop of Canterbury at a ceremony held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. He was ordained the Bishop of Bradwell by Stephen Cottrell, the Bishop of Chelmsford in a church service in Chelmsford Cathedral on the 29th January 2012.

Wraw died (still in post) in his sleep at his home in Essex in the early hours of 25 July 2017. His funeral Eucharist was held at Chelmsford Cathedral on 7 August.

In February 2017, Wraw announced that his cancer was no longer treatable and he was receiving palliative care. He continued his ministry until his health no longer permitted him.

Wraw was ordained by the Church of England: made a deacon on Petertide in 1985 (30 June) by John Eastaugh, Bishop of Hereford and priest at following the Petertide after (29 June, 1986) was ordained in the presence of Mark Wood, Bishop of Ludlow Both instances both at Hereford Cathedral. His first pastoral position was that of a curate at Bromyard, Herefordshire. Then he relocated towards South Yorkshire as the Team Vicar of Sheffield Manor (1988-1992), Vicar of St James’ Churchin Clifton (1992-2001) as well as Priest-in-Charge at Wickersley (2001-2004). When he was at Wickersley He was the chairman of the Diocesan Faith and Justice Committee and was chair of Voluntary Action Rotherham. In addition the area Dean was of Rotherham (1998-2004) and was an honourary canon at Sheffield Cathedral (2001-2004). In 2004, he was an Archdeacon in Wilts and served as the chairperson of the Wiltshire Local Strategic Partnership.

John Michael Wraw (4 February 1959 until 25th July, 2017.) was a British Anglican bishop. He was the Bishop of Bradwell and was an area bishop within Chelmsford, in the Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford in 2012, until departure in July of 2017.
