John Stroud is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on October 29, 1957 in New Albany, Mississippi, United States. John Stroud (born (1957-10-29 ) October 29 1957) is a retired American basketball player and coach who played for four years with the University of Mississippi, before being selected by the Houston Rockets in the second round of the 1980 NBA Draft as their first choice. After his playing career, Stroud became a coach for 32 seasons at different levels.
After a professional career of three years Stroud began his coaching business in 1984, as an assistant professor for the University of Alabama.
In 1988, Stroud accepted the head coaching position at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi. Making an immediate impact in Scooba, Stroud led EMCC to its first-ever state tournament appearance and its first regional tournament appearance in 25 years. In his two seasons at EMCC, Stroud compiled a 30-30 record and was named the Mississippi Junior College Coach of the Year following the 1989-90 season before assuming the reins of the Millsaps’ basketball program the following year.
Stroud returned to New Albany in 2003 and went into private business. He first purchased an insurance agency and later opened a Dry Cleaners. He has subsequently been inducted into the SEC Business Hall of Fame.
After his senior season at Ole Miss, Stroud was the most popular choice for his fellow Houston Rockets in the 1980 NBA draft. He played for the Rockets from 1980 to 1981 and was on the 1981 team which was defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers during the NBA Finals. Stroud was a player during the 1982-83 season throughout Europe as part of Caja de Ronda, located in Malaga, Spain.

Stroud joined his school, the University of Mississippi out of West Union High School in Union County, Mississippi where Stroud had been awarded all-state as well as All America honors. He was a member of the Rebels from 1976 to 1980. In 1978-79, he led his team in the SEC in scoring by scoring 26.3 scores per contest. He was awarded one of the All-America honourable mention. He also led with the SEC with scoring 1979-80 , with 25.2 scoring per game. In his time at Ole miss, he helped lead Ole Miss Rebels towards their first win in the postseason tournament against Grambling with a score of 76-74 in Tad Smith Coliseum in the National Invitational Tournament.
Through his entire career at Oxford Stroud recorded the highest number of points for a player in Ole Miss history. He remains the third highest player in the history of the league with 2,328 points. He is also the seventh in field goal attempts shot during the SEC with 894. Stroud is the fifth player in free throws made during an entire season, with 233. He is the only player to have Pete Maravich and Bailey Howell have made more free throws during an entire season. Five players have made more free throws during a single period in SEC more than Stroud. His 39 points during the opening game of 1979’s SEC tournament are the second highest number of points recorded during the course of an SEC match. In addition his 15 field goals in that game were the second- highest in an SEC tournament game. In the following season, his senior year in 1979-80, Stroud was picked to All-America honours for the second time in a row and named the SEC’s athlete of the Year.
In 1985, he became the head basketball coach at W.P. Daniel High School in New Albany, Mississippi, where helmed the boy’s program to back-to-back state championships in 1986 and 87. He compiled a 71-24 record in three years.
