Tillerson didn’t officially depart his post until March 31, 2018. Sullivan however, was given all duties of Secretary of State from on March 13.

From 2003 until the year 2008, Sullivan was a contributor to campaigning for Republicans Chuck Floyd (MD-8); Jack Ryan (IL-Senate) as well as George W. Bush (for the presidency) as well as The Republican Party.

Upon the resignation of Deputy Secretary of Commerce David Sampson, Sullivan was assigned as Acting Deputy Secretary of Commerce beginning on September 1,

During his tenure, he was awarded the Secretary of Defense’s Medal for Exceptional Public Service.
