John P Herety (born 8 March 1958) is an former English professional racing cycler. He raced in the team of Great Britain in the Olympic Games and was a winner of the national road championships as professional. He is currently the manager of the JLT-Condor cycling squad and sometimes offers studio-based analysis of cycling race events on behalf of British Eurosport.
Herety was team manager of the Percy Bilton team after his racing career. He later became the director for racing at British Cycling. He quit following an inquiry concerning what happened at the year 2005 UCI Road World Championships in Madrid where Charly Wegelius as well as Tom Southam were alleged to aid Italian riders , rather than their British team. He finished third at his 80 British National Road Race Championships and was awarded the Manx Trophy. Herety is a chef and was presented with a set of chef’s knives after he took home one of the stages in the 1980 Peace Race in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz) the city with a proud history of steelwork. Herety placed 21st in the road race of the 1988 Summer Olympics held in Moscow and the competition was won by Sergei Skhoruchenkov.

However, his poor performance during the Tour de l’Aude led to him not being chosen by Coop-Mercier’s manager Jean-Pierre Danguillame. Herety later went back to England and was crowned his first Professional British National Road Race Championships. He also achieved success at the Grand Prix Pino Cerami finishing second, after being beaten by the small group of riders with Ronny Van Holen. But after three years with Mercier, he reached an level that did not allow him to make any progress on. Herety stated: “My trouble is that I can’t recover quickly enough after a hard stage race or a race.” “When I’ m racing abroad that is no good, with so many races to ride one after the other.” In 1985, he made the decision to join the British Professional Team Ever Ready allowing him to race on weekends and , if necessary, all week to recuperate. In 1986, he was a part of Percy Bilton riding alongside Bob Downs and Steve Joughin. The following year, he took home one of the stages during the Milk Race and was runner up at the British National Road Race Championships. John had his success due to his fast sprint. However, his inability climb and recover during the hard stage races restricted his palmares. Herety wasn’t a typical class rider as evidenced by his 52nd place overall finish in the 1984 Sealink International.
