Astley Only entered Q School in the 2015-16 season. In the Second event, he defeated Peter Lines 4-0 to secure the two-year tour card.
At the 2016 Riga Masters, Astley beat Joe Perry 4–1, Andy Hicks 4–2 and Jimmy Robertson 4–1 to play in the quarter-finals of a ranking event for the first time in his career, where he lost 4–1 to Mark Williams. He also reached the third round of the Indian Open and Paul Hunter Classic and was defeated 4–2 by Nigel Bond and 4–1 by Zack Richardson. Astley qualified for the International Championship by overcoming Peter Ebdon 6–3 and then saw off Mark King 6–4 once in China, before losing 6–2 to Mark Selby. He recovered to win 5–4 from 4–0 down against Kyren Wilson to qualify for the German Masters, where he was edged out 5–4 by Ricky Walden in the opening round. Astley progressed through to the fourth round of the Gibraltar Open by 4–1 victories over Andreas Ploner, George Pragnall and Ben Woollaston and was eliminated 4–2 by Ryan Day. He finished his first year back on the tour ranked world number 76.
Astley’s 2014-15 season turned out to be disappointing since Astley was not able to qualify for any ranking event aside from his participation in the UK Championship and Welsh Open where he was granted an automatic entry. In the first round at the UK 6-1 in the first round to Jamie Cope and beat David Gilbert 4-1 in the Welsh and then Gary Wilson knocked him out in the second round 4-3. Astley participated in all six low-ranking European Tour events but could not win a single match in one of the tournaments. Following his loss in the first match of qualifying to qualify for his place in the World Championship to Dominic Dale, Astley was relegated from the tour because his ranking was 86th globally.

Astley first became famous in 2007 when he won the national title for Under- 19s (defeating Michael Georgiou in the final) But wins in the amateur PIOS tournaments were difficult to find. The attempts to be eligible for PTC’s main event through Q School in 2011 and 2012 failed as well. However, Astley gained enough sponsorship to allow him to participate in every one of the PTC events of 2013-13 in the amateur category. He completed the final 32-stage three times, and was ranked fourth among amateurs according to the Order of Merit, winning an entry ticket for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
Astley was victorious in his first match of the season, 5-2, against Mike Dunn to reach the main draw for the Wuxi Classic. As a rookie in the ranking event Astley was whitewashed in the hands of Robert Milkins. He won a match at an event that is ranked to the first time defeating Ken Doherty 6-5 in the UK Championship, a performance which he described later as the most impressive in his life. He fell 6-1 to Stuart Carrington in the next round. Astley also made it to China Open. China Open with a 5-2 victory in the final against Robbie Williams and then came through an unofficial round of matches in China and lost 5-1 in the final to Ding Junhui. Astley defeated Sam Baird 10-9 in the first round of World Championship qualifying, but his season came to an end with a the loss of 10-2 in the final to Jamie Cope. He concluded his first season on tour at in the top 98 spots on the planet. Astley was named an Rookie of the year Award in the Annual World Snooker Award Ceremony.
In March 2016, Astley appeared on-stage at the Sheffield Crucible in Richard Bean’s play, The Nap, as the opponent of lead Jack O’Connell’s character.
