It was her only significant international medal from this competition.

Benson’s greatest achievement as an athlete took place at his 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. In the Olympic team as Namibia’s sole female athlete, the 22-year-old Benson was awarded an Olympic silver medal at the women’s 200m T37 race in front of Oksana Krechunyak from Ukraine. In the following Games Benson took silver in the women’s 100m T37 race. When she returned home, she was presented with N$170000 in cash to pay for these medals. She also received a home located in Walvis Bay, and a diplomatic passport from Namibia’s Government of Namibia. In addition, she was able to receive money from individuals, institutions as well as organisations. Additionally, she was offered the opportunity to train for free and physiotherapy for the following four years by an agency located in her hometown. Benson’s success at London were her first person from Namibia to earn the Paralympic gold medal and also the first athlete to earn gold medals at either Olympic and Paralympic Games. She also collected a third World Championship medal by winning a bronze at the 2015 Championships in Doha in the 200 metres (T37). At Rio Benson was given the honour of being her country’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony. With Benson’s favourite event, the 200 metres, withdrawn from the schedule, she entered the 100 metre and 400 metre sprint, and the long jump. Despite qualifying through to the finals in both races, she finished at the back of the field in both events. Her time of 14.16 in the 100 metre sprint was actually faster than her silver medal time from London, but the strength of the field had moved on significantly in the past four years and Benson finished in seventh place.
