Joe Mihalich is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Coach who was born on August 29, 1956 in Washington, D.C., United States. Sports and basketball were in the blood of his family. His grandfather, Joseph C. Mihalich was an athlete of the New York Yankees farm system in the latter part of the 1940s. sharing a room with Whitey Ford until arm issues led him to university as well as La Salle, where the older Mihalich was a professor of philosophy. He carved out an academic niche on the area of sports philosophy. Joseph A., his younger son Joseph A., was a player for Westhead before beginning with his own coaching business.
Mihalich was the first to take his head coaching job to the curb and quickly became the most stable team in the MAAC and was awarded a number of awards, honors and postseason appearances over his 15 years as the head coach of Niagara. In Niagara Mihalich had 265 wins and made an appearance in the NIT during 2003 and 2008 and 2012 , winning the game against Troy State in 2003. Mihalich’s Niagara teams made it to the NCAA Tournament both in 2004, and, winning an encounter against Florida A & M in 2006. The teams of Mihalich are famous for their fast-paced style, with 70-70 points scored per match over nine of the past 10 seasons. Mihalich himself stated “I played for Paul Westhead in college, coached with Morgan Wooten and Speedy Morris I think the up-tempo style is fun. Fun to play that way, fun to coach that way, it’s fun to watch.” The up-tempo, entertaining to watch style has brought many accolades for Mihalich to list, but among his accolades include; MAAC Coaching of the Year during his debut season at Niagara (1998-99) and 2008 NABC District Coach of the Year and in 2005, United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District II Coach of the Year, 2007, Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) Coach of the Year Award and the 2013 MAAC Coach of the Year Award.
He received the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award in 2013.
Mihalich was named head coach on April 10, 2013. Prior to that, he led Niagara to two NCAA tournaments, in 2005 and 2007, and three National Invitation Tournament, in 2004, 2009 and 2013.
Mihalich played for 17 years between 1981 and 1998 in his old school, as an assistant coach Under the head coaches Dave “Lefty” Ervin and the legendary William “Speedy” Morris. Mihalich was part of eight postseason appearances, which included 5 NCAA Tournament teams. Mihalich has coached a number of students from La Salle who would go on to make it into the professional ranks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) which included Simmons, Doug Overton, Randy Woods and Tim Legler.

Joseph Anthony Mihalich (born August 29 1956) is an American basketball coach at a college and the head basketball coach for Hofstra University.
The child of an La Salle professor, his basketball career started as a guard for the La Salle Explorers team as an undrafted player, from 1974 until 1978. Mihalich literally was born up the street that was located near his home on the La Salle campus, on Chew Avenue in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. Mihalich was in the right spot at the right time playing for teams led by Paul Westhead. The Explorers were able to make the NCAA tournament during Mihalich’s freshman year. Their main player came from Joe Bryant, Kobe’s dad. La Salle eventually lost in overtime to Syracuse who made it to the Final Four.
A year of turmoil on and off the court led to Head Coach Mo Cassara being relieved of duties on March 22, 2013. After a nationwide search, on April 10, 2013, Hofstra University President Stuart Rabinowitz and Athletic Director Jeffrey Hathaway announced the hire of Joseph Mihalich. Mihalich brought over to his staff Assistant Coaches Mike Farrelly and Shane Nichols from Niagara. Mihalich later added Hofstra legend Craig “Speedy” Claxton as special assistant to the head coach who now serves as a full-time assistant coach for the team. In 2018–19, Mihalich led the Pride to the regular-season CAA title and was named CAA Coach of the Year.
