James McIntosh Weir (born 15 June 1969) is a Scottish professional footballer and coach. Weir was a player in senior Scottish leagues of Hamilton Academical, Hearts and St. Johnstone. He also was the director of Montrose, Arbroath, Brechin City, Elgin City and Forfar Athletic.

A serious knee injury kept Weir out of action for a period of time until January. He made seven appearances before he was again injured and was able take on Newcastle United at his personal match for his testimonial in May. He played as a youthful Newcastle team beat Newcastle United by 2-1 in front of less than 3,000 fans.

After the resignation of John McGlashan, Weir became the manager of Arbroath on 1 November 2009. Weir failed to save Arbroath from relegation in the 2009–10 Scottish Second Division, as they finished ninth and were beaten by Forfar Athletic in the play-offs. The Lichties also lost to junior club Irvine Meadow in the 2009–10 Scottish Cup.

Weir joined Brechin City on 24 May 2010. Brechin finished fourth in the 2010–11 Scottish Second Division, qualifying for the promotion play-offs, but lost in the final to Ayr United. Weir was sacked by Brechin in September 2012 after the club had made a bad start to the 2012–13 Scottish Second Division.

Despite his many accidents, Weir was captain of the club during the majority of his stay in St. Johnstone, made more than 200 appearances with the Perth club. He also received an award when he crossed 200 at the end of August. As his playing days were coming to their end, Weir became assistant manager initially in the hands of John Connolly and then Owen Coyle.

After playing in the youth league at his local boys club Motherwell Orbiston, Weir became a professional for Hamilton Accies in 1987. He played for six seasons at Douglas Park and made nearly 200 games for the club prior to signing with Premier League Hearts, then under the direction under the guidance of Sandy Clark. The time at Tynecastle was short-lived and he was transferred towards St. Johnstone within a year. He was and was signed to Paul Sturrock in a swap deal which led to Colin Miller move in the opposite direction.

He injured the Achilles tendon in his final match of 1997/98 season which kept him out of the majority of the next season. He was back in the starting lineup, playing as a right-back on 4 April 1999, when he played against Rangers and scored the first of the Saints scoring three goals in the 3-1 victory. After undergoing knee surgery, Weir was preparing to be back in the first team against Aberdeen when the nose was broken (for for the 6th time) during a collision on the training ground with fellow teammate Paddy Connolly. After returning to the squad, he became again injured during training (a fractured cheekbone and broken jaw) which meant he was unable to play another part of the season.

After thirteen years with St. Johnstone, Weir became the manager of Montrose on 8 February 2007. In his first game in charge, on 10 February, the Gable Endies lost 1–0 at Berwick Rangers. Just over a year after signing a contract extension, Weir was sacked towards the end of September 2008 with Montrose third in the league.
