Jim Hagan is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on August 10, 1956 in Monkstown, Ireland. In 1987, Hagan was recruited to newly promoted Spanish Primera Liga side Celta Vigo. At the close of his first year within Spain, Celta had finished in the top portion of the list and Hagan was awarded the Overseas Players of the Year despite opposition with the players like Gary Lineker. Hagan came back to Larne in August of 1989, shifting towards Colchester United in November 1989. He was only a two-time player in his Layer Road side and returned to Larne after which he left to join Swedish club IK Oddevold in May 1990.
By the 2000–01 season Hagan had become youth development officer at Sunderland. He subsequently returned to Larne as Youth Development Officer and became assistant manager under Kenny Shiels in October 2005. In May 2006, Hagan was appointed as manager. However, he was sacked in November 2006 with Larne struggling in the league.
He is currently manager of Larne amateur outfit Wellington Rec. They pulled off a major upset in August 2009 after beating Carrick Rangers 4–3 in the Steel and Sons Cup.
Hagan was let go by Coventry at the conclusion of the 1981-82 season , and in May 1982, he joined the local team, Birmingham City. He quickly made himself a part of his first club and became an integral part of the teams that were moved to and removed from the top league during the following five years.
Hagan was signed by Coventry City from Larne in November 1977, for a price of PS25,000. He made 13 league appearances during the next season. He had a difficult time establishing his place in the club’s Highfield Road and joined Torquay United on loan in September 1979. He was transferred to NASL club Detroit Express in March 1980. He signed with Hong Kong side Seiko in October 1980 on a long loan, and helped Seiko win a sweep in the Hong Kong League, Cup and Senior Cup. After returning in Coventry in July of 1981 and made three more games in the league and was also selected in the squad of Billy Bingham in Northern Ireland’s 40-man provisional team in 1982’s World Cup Finals, but was dropped when the final team was revealed.
In May 1991 Hagan returned to Northern Ireland and was appointed as player- manager of Ballymena United. On leaving he played briefly for Carrick Rangers and had a short and unsuccessful spell in charge of Larne in 1994. He subsequently played for Crusaders before ending his playing career with Coleraine in December 1995.
