Kirby James Fairchild (born October 8th September 1973) is an American musician and singer/songwriter. Most famously, he is the guitarist in the bands indie rock Grandaddy as well as Modest Mouse. Fairchild also released his own solo music as All Smiles.

The family was born in Fresno, California, Fairchild relocated into Modesto in the year 2 and started playing guitar at 14. He has resided in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon where he started his music career with the band “All Smiles”. In 2009, he resides at San Francisco.

On March 1, 2011, Fairchild released All Smiles third full-length album, Staylow and Mighty, on his own Small Aisles label. This album included contributions from Joe Plummer, Danny Seim, and Gary Jarman.

The year 2005 was when Fairchild started touring in 2005 as guitarist for Modest Mouse before Johnny Marr joined the group. Fairchild released his debut single album as a solo artist, Ten Readings of a Warning and arranged to be carbon neutral in 2007 as well as a single “Moth in a Cloud of Smoke”. The musicians on the album are Solon Bixler Joe Plummer, Danny Seim and Janet Weiss. The album’s art was designed by Natasha Wheat. Fairchild joined Modest Mouse in February 2009 and continues to perform with them both across the country and globally. Fairchild released his sophomore album Oh to the Going and not Letting Go on June 30, 2009. The band members who recorded the album included Solon Bixler Mike Cresswell, Nik Freitas as well as Joe Plummer. The band recorded at Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Modesto, and Portland, All Smiles released the EP Fall Never Fell on the 17th of November 2009. It was produced by the musicians Solon Bixler Mike Cresswell, Nik Freitas, Chico Jones, Dave Osborne, Joe Plummer, Danny Seim, Rachel Stolte and Alance Ward.
